Steve Francis’s full name is Steve De’Shawn Francis. Steve was born on February 21, 1977. He was born in Silver Spring Maryland. He weighs around 193 pounds and is 6 feet 3 inches tall. He went to college at the University of Maryland. His story starts before college when he was just a kid he got the nickname Wink. He got that name because he always drank that soda. He was raised by his Mother and Grandmother, Mable. His mothers name was Brenda. He had a long road to the NBA. He went to many different high schools his high school years. He played on the basketball teams, but he only started one of his many high school games. He switched schools, because of his mom’s job. He wanted to graduate with his friends so he was transferred back to the same school he left from. She past away that year because of a heart attack.From that he could not stand and dropped out. Later he re entered a private school in Connecticut Academy. A while later he played on two junior basketball teams before attend the University of Maryland. While he was on the junior teams he went to the AAU tournament. He did great in the tournament being one of the best their. He took Maryland to the sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament his only year there. He led his

team to 28 wins, which is a school record. He was also named First Team All-American by sports Illustrated. He entered the draft and was picked by the Memphis Grizzlies and before his rookie year with the Grizzlies he was traded to the Houston Rockets which altogether was a three team trade. While he was with the Houston Rockets he scored an average of 18 points and was 5.3 on the boards. He shared rookie of the year award with Elton Brand and was also the 7th rookie in NBA history to score 15 points, 5 dimes and 5 boards. He was rookie of the month in the months of April, March, and December. He finished 2nd just behind Vince Carter in the Slam Dunk Contest.
